Sumsel-8 Wins 2026 Zhan Tianyou Award, Earning International Recognition in Engineering

Chengdu, 22 September 2026 – The Sumsel-8 project, developed by PT Huadian Bukit Asam Power ("HBAP"), has reached an important international milestone. It has received the 21st China Civil Engineering Zhan Tianyou Award. HBAP Vice President Director Dody Arsadian accepted the award at a ceremony in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China, on 22 September 2026.

The award is presented by the China Civil Engineering Society together with the Beijing Zhan Tianyou Civil Engineering Science and Technology Development Foundation. The Zhan Tianyou Award is a prestigious honor in civil engineering and engineering innovation in China. It is granted every three years to projects with outstanding achievements in quality, safety, technological innovation, and green, low-carbon development.

For the 21st edition in 2026, 100 projects from various fields were selected through a multi-stage process. The process included project recommendation and submission, formal examination, professional evaluation, and final review, followed by verification by the Zhan Tianyou Award Steering Committee. Six of these projects are in the Power Engineering category. One of them is the 2×660 MW Sumsel-8 Mine-Mouth Coal-Fired Power Plant ("Tanjung Lalang Power Plant") in Muara Enim, South Sumatra.

Sumsel-8 was also cited as the first power plant project outside China to win the award in the history of the Zhan Tianyou Award. This achievement gives Sumsel-8 a distinctive position as an energy project that represents Indonesia–China cooperation in the power industry.

For HBAP, the Zhan Tianyou Award is external recognition of the quality and achievements of the Sumsel-8 project. It also becomes part of the project's track record in developing Indonesia's energy infrastructure.

The recognition also helps HBAP build credibility and stakeholder trust. This matters in particular because the award is granted through an evaluation process that includes review and verification by internationally recognized institutions and award committees in China. HBAP believes the award will support its business development and strengthen the company's credibility in new project partnerships in the future.

From Muara Enim to Chengdu, the award is not the end of the road for HBAP. Instead, it gives the company fresh momentum to keep upholding standards of quality, safety, innovation, and sustainability in operating Tanjung Lalang Power Plant. HBAP will also continue to make a real contribution to the development of Indonesia's energy sector.
