HBAP turns FABA into paving blocks for SD Negeri 16 Tanjung Agung

PT Huadian Bukit Asam Power (HBAP) has laid paving blocks made from the fly ash and bottom ash (FABA) of the Tanjung Lalang Power Plant (Sumsel-8 MMCFPP) in the yard of SD Negeri 16 Tanjung Agung. The work, part of the company's social and environmental responsibility (TJSL) programme, puts the principle of sustainable development into practice in the area around the plant.

The inauguration was attended by the Speaker of the Muara Enim Regional Parliament, Deddy Arianto Sutopo, S.Pd., and parliament member Yones Tober of electoral district 5, together with the regency Environmental Office, the Tanjung Agung sub-district leadership — the Camat, the police chief and the military commander — and the head of Tanjung Lalang village as host. HBAP was represented by its Vice President Director and its HR & GA Director. Their presence reflected the synergy between the company, the regional government, local authorities and the community.

Using FABA as the base material for paving blocks is an application of the circular economy: a by-product of power generation is processed into a product of practical value to the community, within the applicable rules and standards.

The programme is part of a long journey. Since 2020 HBAP has built collaboration and carried out studies and shared learning with the regional government, universities, research institutes and other power plants that have developed FABA applications ahead of it — from a comparative visit to the Tarahan plant in Lampung (2022) and a learning trip to Ende, East Nusa Tenggara (2023), to a FABA utilisation profile prepared with the Muara Enim regency and a local university, comparative visits to the Indramayu and Suralaya plants (2024), and a 2025 study with the Muara Enim regency and BRIN on FABA as a raw material for fertiliser.

Putting FABA to use depends not on technology alone, but on collaboration and the support of every stakeholder. In the spirit of supporting sustainable development, community empowerment and the circular economy, HBAP hopes the programme will keep growing and will improve both the infrastructure and the quality of life around the plant — so that the company's presence generates not only electricity, but also benefits that the community and the environment can feel.
