At the recently held China Electricity Industry ESG Forum in Changsha, the strategic joint venture between China and Indonesia, PT Huadian Bukit Asam Power (“HBAP”), secured second place with its presentation titled “Huadian’s Light at HBAP, Illuminating the Equatorial Lighthouse.” This award not only reflects the company’s strong commitment to sustainability principles but also underscores the close synergy between Indonesia and China in promoting green development in line with China’s Belt and Road Initiative strategy.
As the largest electricity provider in the Sumatra network, HBAP has implemented various environmentally friendly innovations. These include the implementation of real-time emission monitoring systems (CEMS), the use of membrane-based EDI water demineralization technology to achieve zero liquid waste, and the construction of a Regional Waste Processing Center (PUSPASADA) that converts household waste into clean energy in the areas surrounding the power plant. The company has also actively educated the local community about environmental conservation and forest fire prevention in collaboration with environmental organizations and the local fire department for five consecutive years.
For these contributions, HBAP has been awarded a number of accolades, including the Outstanding Contribution to Green Ecology Development in South Sumatra Province and the 2025 Nusantara National Corporate Social Responsibility Award, affirming the company's role as a pioneer of ESG practices that are responsive to local needs.
In the social sphere, HBAP has established strategic partnerships with various educational institutions, such as Sriwijaya University, to develop talent in the electricity sector. Additionally, the company supports the development of basic infrastructure and provides ongoing educational assistance to children from underprivileged families through a consistent employee volunteer program.
In terms of governance, HBAP adopts international standards to ensure reliable operational continuity. Its vital role was evident during important national events, including the presidential election and electrical emergencies, where HBAP was able to maintain its electricity supply capabilities quickly and effectively. The company has also recorded over 670 days of safe operations without sudden unit shutdowns or workplace accidents, earning it the national Zero Accident Award for 2024.
This achievement coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Indonesia, serving as further proof that cooperation between the two countries through HBAP not only has an economic impact, but also brings tangible benefits to society, the environment, and better governance.
Chinese companies operating in Indonesia express their deepest appreciation and gratitude to the Indonesian government and local communities for the support provided. This support enables Chinese companies to make tangible contributions to Indonesia's development while strengthening mutual trust and international cooperation.
Going forward, companies like HBAP are committed to continuing to strengthen partnerships with Indonesia, implementing efforts to provide clean energy, and creating a better life, as well as playing an active role in promoting quality, inclusive, and sustainable development.
